Stainless steel gearboxes are widely used in industrial transmission fields due to their high strength and corrosion resistance. However, in actual use, stainless steel gearboxes may still malfunction due to improper design, installation, lubrication or maintenance....
JSP Brake Disc Grid Coupling
The JSP Brake Disc Grid Coupling integrates a disc brake mounting surface into the grid coupling hub, combining flexible torque transmission with disc-type braking capability. Available in 11 sizes from 200 to 16,000 N·m with brake disc diameters from 315 to 900 mm, it serves precision braking applications in paper mills, printing lines, and machine tools.
JSP Brake Disc Grid Coupling – Serpentine Spring Coupling With Integrated Disc Brake Interface
The JSP Brake Disc Grid Coupling combines the proven serpentine spring torque transmission mechanism with an integrated disc brake mounting surface, enabling caliper-actuated disc braking directly on the coupling hub. Unlike the JSZ variant that accommodates shoe-type brakes, the JSP is engineered for disc brake systems — the preferred braking technology where precise stopping control, shorter stopping distances, and consistent brake performance are paramount.
Available in 11 sizes from JSP1 (200 N·m, 315 mm disc) to JSP11 (16,000 N·m, 900 mm disc), the JSP serves industries that demand repeatable, fade-resistant braking combined with torsional vibration isolation. The disc brake surface (D₀) and width (B) are machined to interface directly with standard hydraulic, pneumatic, or spring-applied caliper brakes, eliminating the need for separate disc mounting adapters.
Disc brakes deliver more consistent and controllable stopping torque than shoe brakes, with shorter response times and less torque fade during repeated braking cycles.
Advantages of Disc Brake Integration
Precision Stopping Control
Integrating the brake disc into the coupling hub reduces overall drivetrain length and eliminates a separate disc-hub adapter, saving space and simplifying alignment.
Compact Combined Unit
The exposed disc surface provides superior heat rejection compared to enclosed drum brakes, maintaining consistent braking performance during high-frequency stop-start operations.
Heat Dissipation
From lightweight precision equipment (JSP1 at 200 N·m) to heavy industrial drives (JSP11 at 16,000 N·m), the range covers a broad spectrum of disc-braked applications.
11 Sizes to 16,000 N·m
The disc surface accommodates hydraulic, pneumatic, and spring-applied caliper brakes from all major manufacturers without proprietary adapters.
Universal Caliper Compatibility
The serpentine spring element between the disc hub and the opposing shaft hub absorbs torsional transients generated during braking, protecting gearbox internals from shock loads.
Spring-Based Vibration Isolation
Note: Weight without bore holes. Disc brake pad width (B) is 30 mm for all models. Disc diameters (D0) increase with torque rating to provide adequate braking surface area.
Winder drives, unwinder tension brakes, and calender roll drives where disc brakes provide the precise torque control needed to maintain web tension and prevent sheet breaks.

Target Applications
Paper & Converting Machines
Yaw drive couplings where disc brakes control nacelle orientation, and the serpentine spring absorbs the cyclic torsional loads generated by wind gusts and turbulence.

Machine Tools & CNC Equipment
Industry: Pulp & Paper | Application: Winder Tension Brake Drive
Wind Turbine Yaw Systems
We fitted JSP7 couplings with hydraulic caliper brakes on two new winder drives. The disc brake provides the precise tension control we need for our lightweight specialty papers at speeds up to 1,800 m/min. Brake disc runout measured less than 0.03 mm after 16 months of service — outstanding consistency.

Industry: Building Materials | Application: Vertical Mill Separator Drive
The JSP9 coupling replaced a separate disc-plus-coupling assembly on our cement vertical mill separator. The integrated design reduced the drivetrain length by 95 mm, which was essential for our tight mill house layout. Vibration reduction at the gearbox input bearing was measured at 19%.

Industry: Steel & Metals | Application: Coil Rewind Line
Our coil rewind line uses JSP5 couplings with spring-applied hydraulic-release calipers for emergency hold. The disc brake response time of 180 ms meets our safety requirements. We noted that the standard 30 mm disc width limits pad selection to specific manufacturers — a wider disc option would improve flexibility.
