SCS50 Aluminum Shaft Collar 50mm Bore – Large Bore Split Clamp 3mm Gap M10

MOQ: 50 pcs. Minimum order value USD 1,500; mixed orders and trial quantities welcome.

SCS50 Aluminum Shaft Collar – 50 mm Bore, 3 mm Wide Slit, M10 Screw, OD 85 mm

The SCS50 shaft collar combines the M10 clamping power of the SCS45 with a 3 mm slit gap — the widest in the series — specifically to address the installation challenge that large-bore shaft collars present in the field. On a 50 mm shaft, a narrow slit collar can require a pry tool or press to open enough for shaft insertion — significant when the collar must be installed over a fully assembled shaft in a confined machine frame.

The 3 mm slit allows the SCS50 to spring open sufficiently for one-person, tool-free shaft insertion even on a 50 mm bore. Despite the wider slit, the M10 screw and 85 mm OD ensure clamping forces identical to the SCS45 at equivalent screw torque.

Design Features and Performance Advantages

🛠 3mm Slit: One-Person Installation
Widest slit in the series — 50mm bore collar installs by hand over a fully assembled shaft, without pry tools or a press.

⚡ M10 Power + 85mm OD Wall
Deep 17.5mm wall per side ensures full slit closure at M10 torque — no reduction in clamping force vs narrower-slit SCS45.

📈 Zero-Disassembly Maintenance
Install or reposition over existing shaft assembly — critical on extruder, press, and mill drives where shaft teardown costs days.

⚙ 14mm Keyway Retained
Same keyway as SCS45 — one key standard covers both 45mm and 50mm shafts in mixed-shaft heavy-drive systems.

Application Sectors

▶ Extruder and Injection Moulding Machine Drive Shafts

50 mm is the primary shaft diameter of many twin-screw extruder drive systems and large injection moulding machine plasticising drives. The SCS50 with 14 mm keyway retains the drive coupling half against the very high axial and torsional loads, while the 3 mm slit allows collar installation with the screw in-situ — avoiding costly downtime of a full screw withdrawal.

▶ Paper and Pulp Mill Roll Drive Shafts

Paper machine press section roll shafts run at 50 mm in the niproller and felt-guide drive positions. The SCS50 provides axial retention for the roll drive coupling at the motor end, preventing the roll from walking axially under nip load and felt tension forces during production.

▶ Large Crane and Hoist Drum Shafts

Industrial overhead crane hoist drum shafts in the 5–15 tonne capacity range run at 50 mm in the drum bearing journal. The SCS50 with 14 mm keyway retains the drum drive sprocket against very large starting torques, while the 3 mm slit enables installation with the drum suspended in the crane bridge.

Installation and Mounting Notes

The SCS50's 85 mm OD with 50 mm bore leaves 17.5 mm of wall per side — the deepest wall in the series at the M10 screw class. This generous wall section maintains the collar's hoop stiffness against bore expansion forces generated by the 3 mm slit opening, ensuring the slit faces close fully and evenly when the M10 screw is torqued to specification. A key design use case is installing the SCS50 after all other shaft components (bearings, seals, couplings) are in place. Frequently Asked Questions – SCS50

Does the 3mm slit mean the SCS50 cannot clamp as tightly as the SCS45?

No. The slit width affects installation ease but not the final clamped state. Once the M10 screw is torqued to specification, both the SCS45 (2mm slit) and SCS50 (3mm slit) achieve the same bore closure and clamping force at equivalent screw torque — the slit is fully closed in both cases.

What is the load rating of the SCS50 for axial shaft retention?

Axial retention force depends on bore-shaft friction coefficient and clamping screw preload. At the recommended M10 tightening torque of 35–45 N·m, typical axial retention forces for a dry steel shaft are in the 15–25 kN range, depending on shaft tolerance and surface finish. EP provides detailed clamping force data on request.

Can the SCS50 be installed without removing adjacent components from the shaft?

Yes — this is the primary design intent of the 3 mm slit. Provided there is access to the shaft end for axial sliding, the collar can be installed over a fully assembled shaft without removing bearings, seals, or couplings.

What is the MOQ and are mixed keyway/no-keyway orders accepted?

MOQ is 100 pieces per variant. Mixed keyway and non-keyway collars within a single order are accepted above the 100-piece threshold per variant.
