Product Overview

The EP-K97 is a helical-bevel gear reducer designed for industrial applications that require a
right-angle (90°) change of transmission direction. The drive combines
two stages of helical cylindrical gears with one stage of spiral bevel gears
in a compact three-stage arrangement, delivering precise directional change, wide ratio coverage,
and high efficiency in a single robust housing.

All gears are machined from 20CrMnTi low-carbon alloy steel, carburised and case-hardened to a
tooth-flank hardness of HRC 58–62, with contact fatigue strength σH ≥ 1,500 MPa and bending
fatigue strength σF ≥ 450 MPa. Ground tooth flanks achieve GB/T 10095.1 accuracy grade 6,
minimising noise and vibration and maximising transmission smoothness.

The EP-K97 covers an input power range of 0.12–30 kW and a maximum permitted
output torque of 6500 N·m. The standard gear ratio range is 5.36–200,
giving output speeds from 7.2–4,877 rpm with a 4P induction or servo motor.
Six mounting types — foot (K), B5-flange (KF), shaft-mounted hollow-bore (KA, KAF),
GK-housing hollow-bore (KAB), and torque-arm shaft-mounted (KAT) — cover virtually
every installation requirement. Standard ingress protection is IP55, with IP65 available on request.

The housing is precision-cast from HT250 high-strength grey cast iron and stress-relief aged
to ensure long-term dimensional stability. All rolling-element bearings are sourced from
premium manufacturers, designed to an L10h service life of ≥ 20,000 hours.
A balanced internal pressure system and high-integrity shaft seals prevent lubricant leakage
and exclude external contamination.

Mounting Types & Installation Positions

The EP-K97 is available in the following mounting configurations, each designed for a specific
installation requirement:

  • K97 (foot-mounted, solid output shaft)
  • KF97 (B5 flange-mounted, solid output shaft)
  • KA97 (shaft-mounted, hollow output shaft)
  • KAF97 (B5 flange + hollow output shaft)
  • KAB97 (GK housing, hollow output shaft)
  • KAB97 — GK-housing shaft-mount type with hollow output shaft; designed for high radial loads (available on selected sizes)
  • K97SZ — input-shaft-only variant (no motor); accepts a customer-supplied coupling or pulley
  • K97R — combination of K97 and R-series helical reducer for very high overall ratios
  • KAT97 — KA type with integrated anti-rotation torque arm for rigid shaft-mount installations

All mounting types support six standard mounting positions (M1 to M6):

PositionDefinitionTypical Use
M1Motor horizontal, housing feet down (standard position)Suits the majority of horizontal drive applications
M2Motor horizontal, motor below housingFor upward-facing output shaft or suspended installation
M3Motor horizontal, housing feet upFor overhead platform mounting
M4Motor above housingSaves horizontal floor space in side-drive layouts
M5Motor horizontal, housing left side downFor drives mounted on a vertical face

Typical Industry Applications

IndustryTypical Application
Underground MiningArmoured face conveyors and longwall haulage systems.
Port HandlingBulk unloader travel drives and boom luffing systems.
Continuous CastingStraightener and withdrawal rolls in steel casting lines.
Cement & MineralsVertical mill hydraulic roller presses and auxiliary drives.

The 90° right-angle output shaft of the EP-K97 gives it a decisive advantage wherever
space is constrained or the transmission direction must change. From precision low-speed
processes to continuous heavy-duty industrial operations, the EP-K97
delivers a reliable and efficient drive solution across a wide range of sectors.

Case Study: Continuous Casting Withdrawal

A slab caster withdrawal and straightening unit uses EP-K97 gearboxes delivering 5,800 N·m output torque. Hydraulic couplings provide smooth starting, and PLC speed control maintains casting speed accuracy within ±0.01 m/min, raising slab quality yield by 15%.

Key Product Advantages

High Efficiency

Three-stage combined drive achieves 94–97% unit efficiency. Ground spiral bevel flanks minimise mesh losses and heat generation.

High Torque Density

Compact housing achieves an excellent torque-to-weight ratio. The K97 frame delivers up to 6500 N·m in a package weighing only 160–205 kg.

Long Service Life

L10h bearing life target ≥ 20,000 hours. Premium rolling bearings, engineered lubrication and robust sealing support a 15–20 year equipment life.

Versatile Installation

Foot, flange, shaft-mount and torque-arm types with M1–M6 positions cover virtually every spatial constraint and layout requirement.

Low Noise & Vibration

Grade 6 ground gears and precision-balanced spiral bevel stage keep sound pressure below 78 dB(A), suitable for noise-sensitive production environments.

Wide Ratio Range

Standard ratio series 5.36–200 covers a broad output speed range in one frame size, eliminating the need for separate gearbox families for different applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the maximum output torque available in the K97 series?
The K97 series reaches its highest output torque in the K97R77 combination unit (K97 in series with an R77). The stand-alone K97 rated torque is approximately 6,500 N·m; the K97R combination can exceed this figure depending on configuration.
How is the hollow bore diameter selected for a KAB97?
The KAB97 hollow bore is sized to the driven shaft diameter. Available bore diameters for the K97 KAB type typically range from 50 to 80 mm. Ensure that the keyway stress is within permissible limits at the required torque; contact Ever Power to confirm the correct bore and key size for your shaft.
What maintenance schedule is recommended for K97 units in 24/7 mining service?
Inspect gear tooth surfaces every six months. Take oil samples for ferrographic analysis quarterly. Change oil at 500 hours for the initial fill, then every 8,000 hours or annually. Reduce the interval to every six months in extreme dust or vibration.
Can a K97 directly replace a K107 in an existing installation?
No — the K97 and K107 have different foot-mounting bolt patterns, output shaft diameters, and flange dimensions. A direct drop-in swap is not possible. Lock in the gearbox frame size at the project design stage to avoid costly foundation modifications later.
What surface treatment is recommended for K97 units installed near the sea?
Specify enhanced C3 or C4 corrosion protection paint system, stainless-steel output shaft, and stainless-steel external fasteners. Apply anti-corrosion grease to all exposed mating surfaces after installation, and inspect and re-coat annually in marine environments.
