LIN Plastic Linear Bearings – Maintenance-Free Dry Running

LIN plastic linear bearings are oil-free sliding bearings for dry, quiet and corrosion-resistant linear motion. The documented material has density 1.48 g/cm³, dry steel friction 0.05–0.15 and a 10–50 mm bore family.

LIN plastic linear bearings take a different approach from recirculating ball bushings. A polymer sliding element runs directly on the shaft, eliminating rolling balls and the associated need for grease. That makes the family attractive where dry operation, low noise or resistance to washdown chemicals matters more than extremely low rolling friction.

The outline covers LIN-01/LIN-02 sliding membranes, open LIN-01K parts, LIN-01R/LIN-02R bearing forms, flanged derivatives and LN-11G housings. It records a polymer density of 1.48 g/cm³, a dry steel friction coefficient around 0.05–0.15, maximum dry PV of 0.4 N/mm²·m/s, continuous operation from −50 to +90°C and short-term exposure to +120°C.

Catalogue note: Plastic-bearing life depends on pressure, velocity, temperature and shaft surface. Treat the PV value as a combined duty limit rather than a standalone load rating.

Typical Applications

LIN bearings are well suited to food-packaging machinery, dusty handling equipment, light conveyors, laboratory fixtures and machines where grease would attract abrasive particles or complicate cleaning. The outline specifically notes that the material can be cleaned with disinfectant and uses groove geometry intended to help expel dust or sand from the sliding system.

Dry running does not mean any shaft will work. Surface finish, hardness, corrosion behaviour and edge condition influence both friction and wear.

Selection Guide

Choose the bearing geometry and bore first, then check the pressure-velocity duty. A lightly loaded high-speed axis and a heavily loaded slow slide can have similar PV, but their wear and temperature behaviour may still differ. Include cycle rate and travel distance in the RFQ when the duty is continuous.

Where a standard cylindrical plastic bearing does not fit the mounting plan, compare the flanged RT/RF forms or the LN-11G housing family rather than adding a custom metal sleeve around the bearing.

Installation & Operating Notes

Install the polymer bearing without sharp housing edges and use a shaft surface that will not cut or abrade the liner. Avoid lubricants unless the selected LIN material and duty explicitly call for them; the core benefit of this family is dry operation.

Inspect wear by checking running clearance and the shaft contact surface. In dirty applications, the absence of grease can reduce particle retention, but accumulated abrasive debris still needs to be removed.

FAQ

Do LIN plastic bearings require grease?
The outline positions them as maintenance-free, dry-running bearings.
What is the documented temperature range?
Continuous service is listed at about −50 to +90°C, with short-term exposure up to about +120°C.
What does PV mean?
PV combines bearing pressure and sliding velocity; the outline gives a maximum dry value of 0.4 N/mm²·m/s.
What bore range is covered?
The documented family spans 10–50 mm.
