Product Overview

The EP-K167 is a helical-bevel gear reducer designed for industrial applications that require a
right-angle (90°) change of transmission direction. The drive combines
two stages of helical cylindrical gears with one stage of spiral bevel gears
in a compact three-stage arrangement, delivering precise directional change, wide ratio coverage,
and high efficiency in a single robust housing.

All gears are machined from 20CrMnTi low-carbon alloy steel, carburised and case-hardened to a
tooth-flank hardness of HRC 58–62, with contact fatigue strength σH ≥ 1,500 MPa and bending
fatigue strength σF ≥ 450 MPa. Ground tooth flanks achieve GB/T 10095.1 accuracy grade 6,
minimising noise and vibration and maximising transmission smoothness.

The EP-K167 covers an input power range of 0.55–132 kW and a maximum permitted
output torque of 35000 N·m. The standard gear ratio range is 5.36–250,
giving output speeds from 3.8–38,024 rpm with a 4P induction or servo motor.
Six mounting types — foot (K), B5-flange (KF), shaft-mounted hollow-bore (KA, KAF),
GK-housing hollow-bore (KAB), and torque-arm shaft-mounted (KAT) — cover virtually
every installation requirement. Standard ingress protection is IP55, with IP65 available on request.

The housing is precision-cast from HT250 high-strength grey cast iron and stress-relief aged
to ensure long-term dimensional stability. All rolling-element bearings are sourced from
premium manufacturers, designed to an L10h service life of ≥ 20,000 hours.
A balanced internal pressure system and high-integrity shaft seals prevent lubricant leakage
and exclude external contamination.

  • KAT167 — KA type with integrated anti-rotation torque arm for rigid shaft-mount installations

All mounting types support six standard mounting positions (M1 to M6):

Position Definition Typical Use
M1 Motor horizontal, housing feet down (standard position) Suits the majority of horizontal drive applications
M2 Motor horizontal, motor below housing For upward-facing output shaft or suspended installation
M3 Motor horizontal, housing feet up For overhead platform mounting
M4 Motor above housing Saves horizontal floor space in side-drive layouts
M5 Motor horizontal, housing left side down For drives mounted on a vertical face
M6 Motor horizontal, housing right side down Mirror image of M5 for opposite-hand mounting

Typical Industry Applications

Industry Typical Application
Ultra-Heavy Lifting Main drives for bridge cranes rated 500 t and above.
Heavy Presses Main drives for ten-thousand-tonne hydraulic forging presses.
Steel Rolling Auxiliary drives for heavy primary rolling mills.
Mine Hoisting Auxiliary drives for main mine winding engines.

The 90° right-angle output shaft of the EP-K167 gives it a decisive advantage wherever
space is constrained or the transmission direction must change. From precision low-speed
processes to continuous heavy-duty industrial operations, the EP-K167
delivers a reliable and efficient drive solution across a wide range of sectors.

Case Study: Mine Sub-Shaft Hoist

An auxiliary drive for a metalliferous mine sub-shaft winder uses EP-K167, delivering 32,000 N·m output torque. An integrated high-speed brake provides automatic fail-safe engagement on fault, meeting the safety requirements of GB/T 10599 and protecting an asset valued at over USD 10 million.

Key Product Advantages

High Efficiency

Three-stage combined drive achieves 94–97% unit efficiency. Ground spiral bevel flanks minimise mesh losses and heat generation.

High Torque Density

Compact housing achieves an excellent torque-to-weight ratio. The K167 frame delivers up to 35000 N·m in a package weighing only 1,263 kg.

Long Service Life

L10h bearing life target ≥ 20,000 hours. Premium rolling bearings, engineered lubrication and robust sealing support a 15–20 year equipment life.

Versatile Installation

Foot, flange, shaft-mount and torque-arm types with M1–M6 positions cover virtually every spatial constraint and layout requirement.

Low Noise & Vibration

Grade 6 ground gears and precision-balanced spiral bevel stage keep sound pressure below 78 dB(A), suitable for noise-sensitive production environments.

Wide Ratio Range

Standard ratio series 5.36–250 covers a broad output speed range in one frame size, eliminating the need for separate gearbox families for different applications.

Frequently Asked Questions

What mounting types are available for the K167?
The K167 series offers two principal mounting types: K167 (foot-mounted with solid output shaft) and KA167 (shaft-mounted with hollow output shaft and anti-rotation torque arm). The KA167 mounts directly on the driven shaft without a coupling, giving a more compact installation.
What material and heat treatment are used for the K167 output shaft?
The output shaft is machined from 42CrMo alloy steel, quenched and tempered for core toughness, then induction hardened or nitrided to a surface hardness of HRC 50–55. This combination gives excellent fatigue life under high alternating bending loads.
Can the K167 be run on a variable-frequency drive?
Yes. The K167 is compatible with VFD operation over a frequency range of 5–60 Hz, giving proportional speed variation from about one-third to twice the synchronous speed. Ensure the motor is specified with inverter-duty windings, and set a minimum frequency limit (typically ≥3 Hz) to prevent insufficient motor cooling at very low speeds.
What is the design service life of the K167?
The K167 is designed for an L10h bearing life of at least 20,000 hours. Gear contact fatigue life is calculated for 10⁷ load cycles. With normal maintenance, total service life is expected to reach 15–20 years, in line with the design life of large industrial facilities.
How should the K167 be handled during transport and installation?
At approximately 1,263 kg, the K167 must be transported in a dedicated shipping frame to prevent vibration damage. Use the lifting lugs cast into the housing for all lifts; never tilt the unit more than 15° from its normal operating attitude to prevent oil displacement and spillage.
