A hydraulic cylinder is a mechanical actuator used to provide unidirectional force through a unidirectional stroke. Hydraulic cylinders are found in almost every industry and are available in a number of configurations. The two primary types of hydraulic cylinders are Tie-rod and Welded. Each of these cylinder types can possess unique applications because of their designs. Tie-rod cylinders are often installed in light to
moderate duty applications and tend to be designed to be repaired or re-packed if required. Welded cylinders are designed for most applications and so are more complex in design but are generally more difficult to correct because of the welded style. Welded cylinders are usually a better solution due to their compact design and when a more robust design is important within an application.
