Stainless steel gearboxes are widely used in industrial transmission fields due to their high strength and corrosion resistance. However, in actual use, stainless steel gearboxes may still malfunction due to improper design, installation, lubrication or maintenance....
SCS45 Aluminum Shaft Collar – 45 mm Bore, M10 Screw, OD 80 mm, Heavy Industrial Grade
The SCS45 shaft collar opens the highest-performance bracket of the SCS series with the M10 clamping screw — the most powerful fastener size in the range. M10, torqued to specification, generates a bore closure force approximately four times that of M6 and more than eight times that of M4 — allowing the SCS45 to hold large, heavy components on 45 mm shafts without risk of axial slippage under industrial production loads.
The 22 mm face width — the widest in the series — provides an exceptionally large bore contact area. Combined with the 80 mm OD, the SCS45 achieves a contact pressure distribution characteristic of much larger, more expensive retention solutions. The 14 mm keyway (DIN 6885A 14×9, available to order) serves the heavy drive shaft class.

Design Features and Performance Advantages
⚡ M10 Screw: 4x the Force of M6
Maximum screw class in the series — structural-grade retention for shafts carrying genuine industrial production loads.
📈 22mm Face Width: Maximum Contact
Widest face in the series — minimum fretting risk, maximum axial load distribution on 45mm shaft surface.
🆕 Mine and Wind Turbine Grade
Designed for the harshest continuous industrial environments — vibration, shock, thermal cycling, and extreme loads.
⚙ 14mm DIN 6885A Keyway
Serves heavy drive shaft standard — retains large sprockets and couplings rotationally and axially in one component.
Application Sectors
▶ Mining and Mineral Processing Conveyor Drive Shafts
Underground mine conveyor head drum shafts in the 45 mm class carry belt tensions equivalent to tens of tonnes of material. The SCS45's M10 clamping force and 22 mm face width provide the retention force and contact area needed to hold the drive sprocket or coupling on the shaft end against extreme belt tensions.
▶ Wind Turbine Nacelle Auxiliary Drive Shafts
Small-scale wind turbine yaw and pitch drive systems use 45 mm shafts for their auxiliary gearbox outputs. The SCS45 with 14 mm keyway retains the drive sprocket against the combined torsional and thrust loads of the yaw or pitch drive in an environment where maintenance intervals must be as long as possible.
▶ Heavy Press and Stamping Machine Flywheel Shafts
Flywheel shafts in mechanical stamping presses run at 45 mm in the mid-range press size class. SCS45 collars at the flywheel-to-shaft interface prevent the flywheel from migrating axially under alternating torque of the press cycle.

Installation and Mounting Notes
The transition to M10 screws marks a genuine design philosophy shift: the SCS45 and larger models are structural retention components. At this size, the collar's clamping force must be calculated as part of the shaft assembly load analysis, not assumed. EP's engineering team provides clamping force data sheets for the SCS45 at specified M10 torque values to support load analysis in critical applications. The 22 mm face width also dramatically improves resistance to fretting fatigue on the shaft surface. For mining and heavy transport applications, contact EP for application-specific fretting assessment.

Frequently Asked Questions – SCS45
What is the recommended M10 tightening torque for the SCS45?
For M10 socket-head cap screws in aluminium: 35–45 N·m with a calibrated break-type torque wrench. Apply thread-locking compound (medium strength) for applications with sustained vibration or shock loading.
Is the SCS45 structurally rated for load calculations in a shaft assembly?
Yes. EP provides clamping force data sheets for the SCS45 at specified M10 tightening torques on request. These sheets give axial retention force and frictional torque capacity suitable for use in shaft assembly load calculations.
Can the SCS45 be used in an ATEX-rated explosive atmosphere?
Standard aluminium shaft collars may generate sparks in heavy-impact scenarios, generally incompatible with ATEX Zone 1 requirements. For ATEX-rated applications, contact EP for spark-resistant material options and compliance documentation.
What is the MOQ for the SCS45 with 14mm keyway?
MOQ is 100 pieces. The keyway is machined as part of the standard production run with no separate MOQ. Submit your technical drawing for keyway tolerance and chamfer specifications.
